
‘I was nervous’: Resident recounts evacuating Manasota Key Road flooding

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC/Gray News) - Authorities are reporting several deaths since Hurricane Isaias made landfall Friday night in the Florida panhandle. Two people were reportedly killed in Alabama, with a third in Florida due to fallen trees. Rescuers said those numbers could also increase as crews continued their damage assessments. According to Birmingham Fire and Rescue, crews were called to a home on Monterey Drive after midnight Saturday regarding two people being trapped inside.One person was pronounced dead at the scene once rescuers were able to check the home, before later updating their investigation, stating that the second person was also killed. The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office in Florida additionally confirmed a fatality early Saturday morning since Isaias’ landfall as a Category 2 storm, stating that a downed tree had taken the life of a resident.
