Firefighter hit by car speeding through an accident scene, officials say

EAST HAMPTON, Conn. (WFSB/Gray News) - A volunteer firefighter is recovering from injuries Sunday evening after they were struck by a vehicle speeding through an accident scene.According to the East Hampton Volunteer Fire Department, while first responders were at a two-car crash, East Hampton police tried to stop a fast-moving vehicle that was trying to pass the scene, but were unsuccessful.About five minutes later, the vehicle returned from the opposite direction, driving around a fire truck and striking traffic cones before hitting a firefighter who was working at the scene.Fire department officials say the firefighter had minor injuries and was evaluated at a local hospital.The vehicle reportedly continued driving through the active emergency scene before fleeing westbound on Route 66 toward Portland.Anyone with information regarding the vehicle or the driver is asked to contact the East Hampton police department.
