Structure fire contained in Sarasota County, case under investigation

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Fire crews contained a structure fire in Sarasota County on Sunday afternoon.The fire was reported shortly before noon in the 1000 block of Herndon Place, according to Sarasota County Emergency Services. Sarasota County Fire Department crews arrived within six minutes and brought the fire under control.Several people were displaced by the fire and have been offered assistance from the American Red Cross.“We are here to provide support, obviously, when a fire is taking place, and we will continue to help and make sure that they have the support afterwards,” Sarasota County Public Information Officer Josh Taylor said.A firefighter suffered a medical emergency while crews were running hose lines at the scene. The firefighter received care at the scene before being taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.The Florida State Fire Marshal is investigating the fire.This is a developing story.
