Worker dies after being injured at meat-producing facility, officials say

MONMOUTH, Ill. (KWQC/Gray News) - A worker at the Smithfield Foods Monmouth location died Monday morning after a workplace incident.A Smithfield Foods spokesman confirmed the death on Monday.They said their safety personnel are working with local law enforcement to investigate.We are deeply saddened to confirm the loss of a team member who was fatally injured in a workplace incident this morning at our Monmouth facility. Our safety personnel are currently on site investigating along with local authorities. Our thoughts and prayers are with our co-worker’s family. Our facility was on a delayed opening this morning.Smithfield FoodsThey said the Monmouth facility was delayed in opening Monday morning.The plant is a meat-producing facility and is a certified supplier of pig casings.
